2019 Global Industry Showference Young Power Korea (Solar, Hydro, Wind, Fuel Cells) October 15, 2019, Yonsei University Baekyang Nuri Grand Ballroom The Global Industry Showference brought together approximately 120 leading professors and researchers including the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Minister of Science, Information, Communications, and Technology; Stanford University Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Mark Jacobson; Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology Professor Hong Sung-an; Hanhwa Q Cells; and Doosan Heavy Industries.
Mark Jacobson of Stanford University pointed to global warming, air pollution, and unstable energy supply and demand as the biggest threats to humankind in assessing the current status and future of global renewable energy.
Hanwha Q Cells highlighted the importance of photovoltaic technology in mitigating pollution and global warming by replacing finite and waste-producing energy sources such as fossil fuels and nuclear energy.
This development is in line with South Korea’s Renewable Energy 3020 Implementation Plan (RE3020) to produce 20% of its energy from renewable sources. Professor Hong Sung-an of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology presented an outlook of the fuel cell and fuel cell vehicle industries.
The advancement of these industries are met with the shutdown of aging nuclear power plants and gradual closing of old coal-fired power stations in an aim to push towards the RE3020 initiative.
